I've had both good and bad experiences with Oakland Tech. I like the academies it has for different career fields, allowing students to explore careers that they are interested in. I also like the variety of interesting electives that it offers. One thing I dislike is the short lunch period, which is typically 30 minutes. It isn't a sufficient amount of time to get food, especially off campus, eat, get back on campus, use the bathroom, and get to class on time. I often have to hurry to do all of this, and I think lunch should be longer so I can relax and enjoy my lunch without rushing. Another thing I dislike is the alarms on all the side doors. The alarms are there to prevent anyone from entering and exiting the school, so that intruders don't come in, but this also means that all students only have three ways to get in and out the school: the front entrance and the two side gates, which get very crowded. I think the school should hire more security instead of having these alarms.

My experience with Oakland Tech High was a very interesting one. Although I found the school spirit lacking with its subpar rallies and spirit weeks that a fraction of the students at Tech attended, I had an amazing experience with the resources, especially as a part of the Health Academy. I took amazingly intricate science classes and was allowed to join a Biotechnology-related internship to expand my view of health careers. Overall, Tech furthered my love of the sciences and mathematics as its academic culture comforted my creativity in the lab. However, the administration at Tech needs to change because it does not focus on the happiness of the students, but rather, on how to control them, creating an imbalance in the school's security and privacy.

Compared to other schools, Oakland Technical is much superior in its student involvement and extracurriculars. Although the school does lack in safety, making it so there's alarms on most doors with consistent reminders to carry around your student ID or show a class schedule. Most teachers are helpful and do their job but others raise huge red flags and are unnecessary rude, including personal opinions in their teaching. The bathrooms are unclean and smell disgusting almost everyday with students always hiding or smoking in them.
